Zero Waste Hour (November, 2021)

The general mindset of people that only one agency is responsible for the management of waste has often led to ignorance of individual responsibility towards waste management. The Zero Waste Hour is observed on the 2nd day of every month to devote at least an hour and encourage individual responsibilities among the local communities and residents towards keeping their area clean. Such initiatives will encourage our citizens to take greater care of their communal areas and our Nation.

The National Environment Commission in collaboration with the GAB and Thimphu Thromde observed the Monthly Zero-Waste Hour on 2nd November 2021. During the event, the participants covered the stretch from the GAB locality and visited the nooks and corners of the Norzin Tag area (Hongkong Market) including the roads and residential areas.

The Volunteers worked together to remove irresponsibly dumped waste from the designated sites and spread awareness to the public on responsible waste management practices. Around 20 people participated and collected 30 sacks of waste.

In parallel, other agencies such as the Royal Audit Authority, Office of Vice-Chancellor, Regional Revenue and Customs office of Phuntsholing, and Regional Immigration office of Gelephu also observed the day and accordingly submitted the report to the concerned office. The NECS would like to thank all the individuals and Offices across our country for their continuous support shown for the Zero Waste Hour Programme.
