Draft Waste Management Strategy 2025

The Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) convened a pre-validation workshop on 24 November 2025 for the Revision of the National Waste Management Strategy 2019 (NWMS), bringing together key stakeholders from Local Governments, relevant government agencies, the private sector, and civil society organizations. The session provided a critical opportunity to present the revised strategy, obtain final inputs, and ensure coherence with national waste-management priorities and Bhutan’s long-term aspiration of a zero-waste society. Participants examined and validated the proposed strategic pillars, thematic action plans, and implementation pathways, while offering substantive feedback to further refine the document ahead of its formal endorsement. The workshop strengthened cross-sectoral collaboration, enhanced stakeholder understanding, and reaffirmed a shared national commitment to addressing emerging waste challenges through a more integrated, practical, and sustainable waste-management framework.
